    October 21 2018

Canon announces new imagePROGRAF-TM series of large-format inkjet printers for the low-mid CAD and poster printing market.

Canon Australia announced today the launch in Australia of 4 models and 4 MFP solutions in the new imagePROGRAF series of large-format inkjet printers. Designed for the CAD (Computer-Aided Design) and poster printing markets, we have lavished many of the same features introduced in high-end TX printers for the TM series--new core technologies, fully pigment 5-color LUCIA TD ink, a print head with six integrated 1.07-inch wide tips, and the L-COA PRO image processor.

The TM series takes the acclaimed Canon print-quality and speed into a mid-market offering. Sharp line drawings and vibrant posters are possible even on economical uncoated paper or inkjet plain paper. To expand the potential huge midrange/entry-level user base, the printers are also designed with specifications and performance that encourage deployment by smaller offices and companies.

To increase deployment in smaller offices and open-plan studios, the printers are designed to be more convenient in these environments. TM printers are quieter by up to 60% in comparison to the imagePROGRAF iPF series and compact, with fully front-accessible operations and flush wall installation, making them easier to set up where space is limited. Now that offices are not as noisy, demand for less distracting office equipment is driving a trend towards quieter MFPs, printers, projectors, air conditioners and other equipment. In response to this change in office environments, we have made the TM series quieter and eliminated distracting noises. By maintain a peaceful, comfortable working environment, the printers have a direct impact on work, which is a highly-valued feature of the TM series.

Each of the imagePROGRAF TM models employ newly-developed LUCIA TD 5-colour pigment ink capable of reproducing fine lines and clear text required for printing CAD drawings, even when using plain paper that lacks ink-absorbing layers. For poster print jobs, these models achieve high colouring on plain inkjet paper, enabling the output of vivid, low-cost posters on plain paper, contributing to economical and efficient in-house printing.

For continuous printing of drawings on A1 landscape plain paper in the fastest mode, the imagePROGRAF TM-300/305 can produce 144 prints per hour, which represents an increase in speed of up to 23% compared to its predecessor, the imagePROGRAF iPF series, thanks to improved print head scanning and reduced time between processing each print.

There is also the option to add one of Global Scanning’s fast, high quality scanners, including the T36/T25 scanner with a user-friendly touchscreen display, to the imagePROGRAF TM series creating the perfect multifunctional office companion.

    Ricoh Debuts Flatbed, Latex Printers

RICOH USA is debuting both a pair of roll-to-roll latex printers and a wide-format flatbed printer targeted at the sign, graphics and décor markets.

The two latex printers — the RICOH Pro L5130 and L5160 — will print up to 473.6 sqft/hr in outdoor standard mode and 270 sqft/hr in indoor standard mode, using curing technology that leaves output ready for finishing as soon as it comes off the printer. Boasting automated maintenance features and a durable design, the printers leverage Ricoh’s GREENGUARD-certified latex inks and industry-leading printheads.

The RICOH Pro TF6250 flatbed printer can print on substrates up to 4.3 inches thick at up to 1,391 sqft/hr. It has true flatbed architecture, with a moving carriage and gantry over a 98.8-by-51.5-inch bed.

“In wide-format, the difference between an application that stands out and one that does not often comes down to the inks that deliver the highest quality with adherence to a wide variety of substrates,” said John Fulena, VP Commercial & Industrial Printing Business Group, Ricoh USA, Inc. “With the RICOH Pro TF6250, we developed a technology platform that can handle the wide range of applications our customers’ customers are seeking.”

The TF6250 uses ink sets available specifically for improved high adhesion to difficult and uncoated media. LED technology keeps power consumption down and cures at lower temperatures, allowing for use of thinner substrates without the risk of melting or warping them. Additional ink sets, including one focused on high colour gamuts for sign and graphic applications, are also available.

Meanwhile, the RICOH Pro L5130 and L5160 latex printers can support 2- and 3-inch roll cores up to 122 lbs. and media up to 64 inches wide. High ink opacity and adhesion enable the production of crisp, clear prints for a variety of applications on substrates that range from wall coverings to window graphics to backlit day/night signage.

Konica Minolta Launches AccurioWide 160 and 200 Hybrid UV LED Wide Format Printers

First-Ever Konica Minolta-Branded Wide Format Products

Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A., Inc. (Konica Minolta) announced the commercial launch of the AccurioWide 160 and AccurioWide 200 wide format printers, both of which employ a hybrid technology platform that can print on most types of roll-to-roll, flexible roll and rigid media. The AccurioWide printers are positioned for commercial printers, franchise printers and sign shops that want to take their wide format production to the next level for efficiency and cost savings.

Powered by Konica Minolta KM1024i print head technology, both printers use UV ink technology that incorporates more color pigment per droplet, reducing ink consumption compared to other printers on the market.  Outstanding print quality, with a large color gamut and outstanding color vibrancy, is achieved by printing up to 1440 x 720 dpi print resolutions. For print production savings, a combination of air-cooled ultraviolet light (UV) and LED curing lamps speed up ink drying times and, in most cases, the LEDs will last the life of the printer.

The AccurioWide 160 operates in various print speed modes, from draft to high quality, printing with four colors with white inks or six color inks only. The AccurioWide 200 has a larger print width, faster print speeds than the 160, and prints in six colors with white inks. Capable of printing to a wide range of media and substrates, the AccurioWide printers will allow for traditional sign and display applications like point of purchase banners, as well as niche applications including printing directly to aluminum di-bond metal or wood for specialty products.

In addition, the AccurioPro WideDirector, a complete and robust software workflow that drives AccurioWide printers, can handle the most difficult and complex print jobs. The all-in-one software has the capability of managing colors and pre-flight tools by automatically analyzing an incoming digital print job, making suggestions to improve image quality as needed.  The software offers automated job layout with step & repeat, image nesting with printing to multiple printers and compatibility with print finishers. The AccurioPro WideDirector also features compatibility with Konica Minolta FD-9 scanning spectrophotometer and other third-party devices for color profiling and color management. In the near future, AccurioPro WideDirector will also provide support for the Konica Minolta FD-5 and FD-7 hand held spectrophotometers.

“The introduction of the AccurioWide 160 and 200 printers represents the first-ever Konica Minolta-branded wide format products released. They represent our continued achievements and expertise with Konica Minolta print head imaging technology and our color management tools to create incredible print value for our customers,” said Dino Pagliarello, vice president, Product Management & Planning at Konica Minolta. “For our North America launch, we are currently taking U.S. product orders for both printers, with launches in Canada and Mexico anticipated in the months ahead,” Pagliarello added.

The AccurioWide 160 printer will be on display and demonstrated at the industry trade show, Print 18, McCormick Place South, Chicago, September 30 – October 2, at booth #1611; and at the Specialty Graphic Imaging Association (SGIA) Expo, Las Vegas Convention Center, at booth #3769. The AccurioWide 200 will also be on display for the first time and demonstrated at the SGIA Expo.

Canon launches Océ ColorWave 3000 wide format series

Canon has launched the new Océ ColorWave 3000 series of large format printers for customers specialising in CAD, GIS and short-term graphic arts applications.

The new systems address the printing requirements in the architectural, engineering, construction and manufacturing (AEC&M) sectors, as well as corporate environments. With the Océ ColorWave 3000 series, customers have the flexibility to easily print an even wider range of applications from black and white technical documents, drawings and maps, to full colour indoor and short-term outdoor graphics such as posters and roll-up banners.

The new Océ ColorWave 3000 series comprises two different models: the Océ ColorWave 3500 and the Océ ColorWave 3700, both meeting the needs of businesses operating at mid-volumes, and both saving businesses time, resulting in a faster return on investment.

    Consistent colour quality
The new printers incorporate the 10-year proven Océ CrystalPoint technology that combines the best of toner and inkjet in Océ TonerPearls, which are melted into a toner gel that crystallises onto the media. Since the introduction of the Océ CrystalPoint technology in 2008, Canon has installed more than 10,000 engines worldwide, based on this technology. Océ CrystalPoint grants customers the option to work with lower cost media without compromising on quality. Prints made with the Océ CrystalPoint technology are instantly dry, enabling handling, stacking and folding to take place immediately.

The use of Océ TonerPearls ensures strong adhesion and scratch-resistance, as well as offers sharp lines with minimal feathering for high quality documents and graphics. Océ TonerPearls prints are also waterproof, enabling businesses to produce applications for short-term outdoor use.

The Océ ColorWave 3000 series also features Océ PAINT (Piezo Acoustic Integrated Nozzle Technology) that helps to overcome nozzle failure on the fly for predictable and consistent print quality, reducing daily maintenance time.

    Print-to-finish
The Océ ColorWave 3500 has a media capacity of up to four rolls and customers can automatically switch between media for faster production. The Océ ColorWave 3700 has a media capacity of up to six rolls, handling up to 1200 m, and can print up to 368m² posters per day in fast mode.

The Océ ColorWave 3000 series features the Océ ClearConnect software suite, helping businesses to manage complex print jobs and offer a more flexible and intuitive interface when submitting print files to the printer.

To avoid misprints and delays, Océ Publisher Select enables customers to automatically preview print jobs. To support this, Océ Print Assistant automatically suggests the right print mode for the job, detecting media requirements, so that the printer switches to the most appropriate media roll without the need for manual intervention.

The Océ Folder Express 3011, Océ Folder Professional 6011/6013 and Océ Stacker Select provides a compact print-to-finish solution, offering an automated folding and stacking capability for working environments in which fast production is required.

Suitable for space-constrained office environments, the Océ ColorWave 3000 series with Folder Express 3011 has a footprint of 25% less than its predecessors, the Océ ColorWave 500 and ColorWave 700, with their respective folding capabilities.

    Beyond technical applications
The Océ ColorWave 3000 series is easy to use and enables customers to offer new services and applications beyond black and white technical drawings, attracting greater volumes and higher quality work.

The Océ ColorWave 3700 supports close to 40 different media types and media up to 800 μm. With Océ MediaSense technology, the print gap between the media and the print head is automatically adjusted to the optimum distance, allowing businesses to print on an even wider range of media, including uncoated paper.

The new Océ ColorWave 3000 series will be shipped from Q3 2018.
Dominic Fahy, Head of AEC&M, Industrial & Production Solutions, Canon UK comments: “Whether customers are wanting to continue to print CAD documents or looking to expand their applications capability by producing short-term graphic arts applications, the Océ ColorWave 3000 series gives them the opportunity to print both. From taking an innovative vision, turning it into a blueprint, then bringing it to life through coloured visuals, customers can use the Océ ColorWave 3000 for consistent high quality prints, time after time, print after print.”

  • + Touchstone Elevates Arizona Print to a New Level

Adding a new dimension to your offering is always a great way to build business and increase profitability, and that’s exactly what Océ Australia has introduced this week, both literal...

    September 04 2018

Adding a new dimension to your offering is always a great way to build business and increase profitability, and that’s exactly what Océ Australia has introduced this week, both literally and figuratively, with the launch of its new Touchstone® elevated printing technology for Océ Arizona® Series of large -format UV flatbed printers – and visitors to Visual Impact this month will be able to ‘see , touch and feel’ exactly what that will mean for their business.

Garry Muratore, Product Manager – Graphic Arts for Océ Australia, says the new workflow software has the potential to help businesses broaden their offering and build their business by creating new high-value, high-margin products using what Océ terms ‘2.5D’ print.

“We’re all aware of the advantages of normal, 2D print and it’s been interesting to see the buzz around 3D in recent years, although the ability of print service providers to integrate those technologies profitably into their business has given it limited relevance for our industry,” Muratore reflects.

“With Océ Touchstone, Arizona printers can take advantage of dimensional print in the form of commercially viable and profitable ‘2.5D’ applications, creating layered, textured prints that command significantly higher margins, without the need to invest in any additional hardware.”

Citing recent research, Muratore says print buyers expect to pay a premium for tactile prints, creating genuine opportunities to add value and improve margins for print service providers who can find a cost-effective and efficient way deliver.

“In any business, profitability is the key to success. Improving efficiency and reducing costs can help, but the real key is leveraging new technologies to establish a genuine competitive advantage,” Muratore says. “Touchstone provides the solution with a suite of new productivity tools that make it
easy to achieve high quality, repeatable results with an exciting sensory dimension.”

“Touchstone uses extensions to the Adobe toolset to allow designers to build dimensional features into print jobs at the design stage,” Muratore explains. “The design tools are free to use, but production does require Océ’s patented ALPS technology, which sits within the Onyx Thrive/ Océ
Arizona ecosystem, speciality Océ IJC257 inks and, of course, an Océ Arizona printer.”

In fact, the system offers two categories of dimensional print. Alto offering provides opaque elevation plus colour in depths of up to 1mm, while Brila offers a lower profile up to 0.5mm, with colour and varnish, opening the door to applications like metallic effects, achieved by printing on reflective media like foil.

Océ’s ALPS technology also ensures every pixel of the final ‘top layer’ – or image layer – is printed at the optimum height, exactly as if it were a 2D job, achieving outstanding quality with no softening of the image in valley.

The results are certainly impressive, with the quality, versatility and tactile appeal of Touchstone prints making it easy to appreciate how it could enhance a range of applications from wallpapers and interior products, short-run or personalised marketing, limited edition packaging, POP and signage, prototypes and moulds, and more.

“We think Touchstone will appeal particularly PSPs with a creative and entrepreneurial mindset, who understand that creating a point of difference can really help them stay ahead of the game. And, of course, those who – and also those who service ‘bespoke’ markets where print is only one component
of the finished item,” Muratore says.

“Importantly, Touchstone makes it easy for printers to achieve these dimensional enhancements, with straightforward, intuitive operation, simplified ‘real-world’ design dimensions and a high level of automation. There are no complex iterations required in the design phase and, in terms of production,
it’s pretty much ‘set and forget’.”

Those keen to “feel the difference” will have the opportunity at Visual Impact, where Océ Australia will have an entire ‘Touchstone Wall’ on display on Stand D17. If you can’t be in Sydney, but still want a preview, you can contact your local Océ business development manager to book a demo – the company has even introduced trial licenses of up to 12 months for existing Arizona users who are keen to dip a proverbial toe in the dimensional print market.

“Océ’s is committed to helping print businesses achieve success through new and profitable print technologies,” Muratore says, “and it’s fair to say that, with the introduction of Touchstone, printing has never felt so good.”

ProCloud chooses Epson SureColor eco-solvent printer solution For vivid vehicle and building signage

Brisbane-based graphic design and web development studio, ProCloud, create and implement brand experiences. They are dedicated to establishing partnerships with their clients in order to create inspiring solutions to their needs. Recently ProCloud had a requirement for a large format printer that would produce vivid vehicle and building signage. For that they chose the Epson SureColor S80600.

ProCloud MD Michael Jackson explained, “At ProCloud our talented creative team are able to design, produce and install our full range of products, making us a one-stop-shop. Regardless of whether you are an established business, a start-up, or an individual looking to make your mark, our team will collaborate with you to better understand your needs and goals. In order to do this we have to use the very best printing equipment. We had purchased another brand-new printer but it was not able to produce solid quality prints. After a lot of research we bought the Epson SC-S80600 as it was clearly the best in its class.”

ProCloud’s SureColor S80600 is designed to produce high-value graphics with enhanced durability. It suits a variable workflow with low to medium production volumes. It can be used with a wide range of media including paper, canvas, film and vinyl and suits a wide range of high-value high-impact applications including large format photo imaging, indoor POS and signage, back-lit displays, window decorations, wallpapers, surface finishes & décor.

The SC-S80600 incorporates Epson’s latest PrecisionCore printhead and UltraChrome Eco-Solvent ink technology. It produces durable prints that are bright and glossy with an unparalleled colour gamut. It is designed to produce premium quality output, using minimum ink, with simple operation, and fast job completion. Prints dry quickly and machines require minimum maintenance. The ink also has a low odour to enable operation in a wide range of commercial, business and office environments.

Jackson continued, “We produce lots of vehicle signage and needed a printer that would give us truly vivid colours. When we completed our research it was clear that the SC-S80600’s vivid colour gamut was second to none.”

As well as vehicle signage ProCloud also uses the SC-S80600 to produce a large amount of building signage.

Michael Jackson concluded, “The SC-S80600 really gives ProCloud and our customers an edge as its vivid colour offerings, high speed and extremely solid prints ensure happy clients. For vehicle and building signage there is no better printer on the market today.”
