    June 25 2019

French RIP software specialist Caldera has announced a range of new technologies and product updates to be showcased at this year’s ITMA. The company will be exhibiting a new version of TextilePro, its production suite for textile printing, along with developments in the SportsFactory E2E web-to-workflow solution and Kit Builder custom clothing designer software, and will be demonstrating automation via Nexio. ITMA will take place in Barcelona, between 20 and 26 June, and Caldera will be in booth H3-B105.

With the release of Version 12.1, TextilePro now features a range of new additions that focus on improving processing speeds and providing a more intuitive user experience.New textile enhancements includes RotationBoost, which saves time on the rotation of huge raster files, making the Caldera rotation algorithm 30% faster than its competitors and Caldera Snapshots, for backing up the installation folder and restoring previously saved backups.

Exclusively for CalderaCare users, CalderaJobs can ensure exact color reproduction of old jobs by archiving and re-importing jobs, CxF/4 spot color libraries import allows to reproduce D65/10 degrees spot colors, and the latest version also incorporates InkPerformer V3, which can lead to ink savings of up to 30%.

Caldera SportsFactory is a comprehensive solution which offers bespoke workflow building to enable users to create their ideal E2E digital workflow. After debuting at FESPA in 2018, the suite delivers capability in project assessment and scoping, inventory of deliverables, planning and budgeting. By working together with strategic partners, Caldera has implemented standardized digital printing set-ups tailored to provide color management, workflow and bi-directional business data between brands and in-house or external print contractors. This results in a comprehensive solution, from the E-commerce storefront to the print file creation and transfer, and color management functions.

Kit Builder is a new fully-customizable clothing designer software that allows customers to design garments with a range of options specified by the provider – including colors, logos, text and embellishments. The result is faster design times, increased sales and fewer production mistakes.

Also on show at Caldera’s ITMA stand will be Nexio – a program that connects the Caldera RIP with third party programs to increase the number automated sequences in the workflow. Production times are reduced, along with errors and costs, while JDF job reports allow for production performance analysis which can fuel operational development and enhance profitability.

According to Sébastien Hanssens, VP Marketing, Operations and IT, “Caldera already has an important number of key customers who specialize in textile printing, and the number continues to grow. We work with producers of sportswear, team uniforms, fashion and home décor, and we will continue to develop products and projects for this important sector of the market.”

Caldera will also be highlighting the recently-launched CalderaCare at ITMA. This is a new customer service agreement that gives clients access to routine maintenance and technical support, along with software updates and enhancements. The scheme offers one, two or three-year contracts and is open to all users of Caldera RIP products. The aim of the subscription is to give users the peace of mind that comes with knowing they have someone to turn to when software issues arise. Commenting on its launch, Sébastien Hanssens said, “CalderaCare is one of our most important initiatives. Providing the best possible support to our users shows our commitment to the customer experience.”

    June 25 2019

X-Rite Incorporated and Pantone LLC, global leaders in color science and technology, announce the new i1Pro 3 Plus, a spectral colour measurement solution specifically designed for imaging, print, and textile professionals who need advanced calibration and color profiling capabilities to support today’s wide-format and industrial printing applications. The i1Pro 3 Plus has been optimised for digital printing on a range of materials and surfaces, including ceramics, textiles, glass, metal, wood, vinyl, plastics, thin films, cardboard, paper, and more. Commercial, wide-format, grand-format, packaging, and industrial printers can now create ICC profiles for almost any substrate and calibrate print production devices for the highest level of colour accuracy.

As more industries turn to digital printing, customers are putting greater emphasis on achieving accurate and repeatable colour. To do this, production print equipment needs to be linearized and profiled for each substrate in order to monitor colour output. Current profiling solutions are limited in their ability to measure textured, rough, or uneven surfaces and cannot accommodate various material thicknesses. Many devices do not have the resolution required to ensure the highest colour quality when printing detailed patterns, metallic effects, or photography images. This leads to costly colour errors and rework which impacts a printer’s bottom line.

“The i1Pro 3 Plus builds on the success of the i1 Family and removes the variability to create accurate ICC profiles on the widest range of materials,” said Ray Cheydleur, Printing and Imaging Product Portfolio Manager, X-Rite. “Wide- and grand-format users and industrial material printers will see immediate value by incorporating the affordable i1Pro 3 Plus into their prepress and production workflows, resulting in more accurate and repeatable color, a reduction of waste, and an increased return on investment.”

A long-term X-Rite partner, EFI (Electronics For Imaging), also sees the great potential of this latest i1 Family member. “We are delighted to support X-Rite’s newly announced i1Pro 3 Plus measurement device within our latest Fiery technologies at ITMA 2019. Due to the nature of digital textile production, this large-aperture device is an excellent fit with our latest single pass EFI BOLT high-speed textile printer. For both colour management and quality control, this device will allow our customers to produce accurate colour much more easily,” said John Henze, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, EFI Fiery.

New in the i1Pro 3 Plus:

    - Larger aperture of 8mm to support new materials and substrates used in digital printing applications.

    - New polarisation (measurement condition M3) filter that reduces specular highlights and shadows on fabrics and ceramics. It provides “better blacks” and richer colours on rough surfaces and glossy medias, like canvas prints and fine art photo papers.

    - Simultaneously measure M0, M1 and M2 in a single pass to account for optical brighteners so prepress and print operators can quickly predict how colours printed on optically brightened substrates will look under different lighting conditions.

    - Longer ruler for measuring the wider charts used in grand-format printing. The ruler includes an ISO-compliant white backer and removable magnetic strips on the top and sides for holding samples in place while measuring.

    - New LED illuminant that improves device reliability. The i1Pr o3 Plus allows for four measurement conditions (ISO 13655 M0; M1: D50; M2: UV Excluded, M3 Polarised).

    - Now supports transmission scanning for backlit film and materials used in signage.

    - Measures high brightness, up to 5K NITs for ultra-bright displays.

“We are used to seeing bumpy shadow measurements from unpolarised devices on glossy textured medias like canvas. With the new polarisation feature in the i1Pro 3 Plus, our M3 measurements are dramatically smoother in the shadows - perfect in fact,” commented Scott Martin, Founder, Onsight, a leading workflow consultant for print, prepress, design and photography.

    New X-Rite iO Table

In addition, X-Rite announces a new i1iO Automated Scanning Table that supports the i1Pro 3 Plus. This hands-free test chart reader offers automated color profiling on a variety of substrates with reduced risk of colour measurement errors. It is ideal for photographers, designers, and printers who want to speed up and automate the measurement process and eliminate manual strip reading.

The new i1iO table can be used with a variety of industrial materials including textiles, ceramics, corrugated, etc. and supports materials up to 33mm thick, with the optional z-axis spacer. It also supports transparencies and backlit materials.

    April 23 2019

Independent candidate for Hume, Huw Kingston, believes politicians should put their money where their mouths are. And to show he, for one, is serious about the environment he is doing away with the usual plastic advertising signs and using recyclable waterproof cardboard instead.

‘I tracked down this board made in Sweden, called Oppboga,’ Mr Kingston said. The waterproof outdoor board is named after the Swedish town where it is manufactured. It is made from paper and a biodegradable waterproofing agent. Mr Kingston has spent two decades campaigning against single-use plastics and his conscience would not allow him to put his face up on a plastic board.

‘The Oppbogas will last as long as the Federal election campaign, then they can go straight into the recycling bin.’

Every election hundreds of thousands of plastic ‘corflutes’ go up in suburbs, towns and along country roads throughout the nation. The product manager for Starleaton, who import the Oppboga boards in Australia, John Buitenkamp, said he had tried to interest the major political parties in the product but so far none had taken it up. The boards are more expensive than the plastic corflute equivalents. The material is used extensively for signage in the UK and has been available in Australia for two years.

Mr Kingston has ordered over 400 of the boards and hopes his example will be followed by other aspiring MPs in elections to come. He is campaigning on the slogan ‘There’s a climate for change’ and this is one change he would like to see, regardless of who wins the election. Additionally the Huw4Hume campaign team wear organic, sweatshop free T shirts and the vast majority of printing is done on FSC certified recycled paper.

‘People now take environmental concerns very seriously, and so should our politicians,’ said Mr Kingston, who is running against the incumbent Liberal, Angus Taylor.

    April 08 2019

Xanté today marked a milestone accomplishment for the company with the announcement of a major release of iQueue, its flagship Adobe PostScript PDF workflow software. “Today iQueue 13 opens an entirely new aspect of the commercial printing industry for us and for our customers. Complete preparation and printing of mail jobs is now more powerful, simpler, and much more economical than ever before,” said Robert Ross, president and CEO of Xanté. “iQueue 13 has made mail prep just as easy as we've made envelope printing.”

With Xanté's iQueue 13 workflow software, commercial print providers may now import their client's mailing list, scrub, sort, and update it for change-of-address within seconds. The addresses process quickly through iQueue's powerful cloud servers containing the USPS CASS and NCOALink databases. Additionally, the iQueue software will generate and print the USPS Intelligent Mail Barcode (IMb) on every piece for maximum discounts and assurance of accurate delivery. All required USPS documentation for the mailing is instantly created and filled in with the mail preparer's information and pertinent data about the mailing. The preparer may submit the documentation electronically to the USPS data processing network directly from a link within iQueue.

Easy Importing, Placement and Printing of Variable Data with iQueue 13

After processing the list through the USPS network for address and change-of-address accuracy, the commercial print provider can easily incorporate the list into an existing job through iQueue's Variable Data engine and printing begins almost instantly. The new version includes a selection for CASS-certified variable data and automatically formats an address block, including the IMb barcode, that meets USPS standards. Placement of the variable data on the piece is merely a “drag and drop” operation within iQueue. The iQueue-powered Xanté digital press prints the entire list in the required order (or reverse order) for accurate sorting into trays or sacks depending on the job. A convenient separator page can mark the divisions between each tray or sack. New enhancements to the processing of variable data enable the digital press to produce prints even faster than earlier versions of the workflow software.

Simple One-Click Checking and Correcting Addresses with iQueue 13

iQueue13, Xante'After scrubbing the list, iQueue 13 allows the mail preparer to review and correct any addresses that were either partially or completely incorrect. A convenient link to Google search is embedded in the same window with the returned address results. Once corrected, one click is all that's needed to resubmit the list again for reprocessing. If any addresses are still found lacking in some detail, iQueue 13 allows the mail preparer to decide whether to print them for manual handling and posting or to simply exclude them from the mailing entirely. In either case, a complete list of all addresses, accepted as well as erroneous ones, may be exported for the list owner.

Available at No Cost for First 12 Months of Use

Use of the mail preparation features of iQueue 13 will be available to Xanté customers free of charge for a full 12 months from date of first use. The subscription will include unlimited use. “We have now made our 12,000 iQueue users fully functional direct mail providers,” Ross remarked. “Our development team has succeeded in producing a top tier solution that makes preparing direct mail simpler and faster than ever for them. We've also made it incredibly affordable for any print provider who already processes bulk mail or wants to begin offering this service to their customers."

Condé Systems adds shrink wrap film sleeves to its DyeTrans® family of production accessories. Introduced to remedy the challenges of imaging uniquely shaped products, the 6.875″x9.8125″ sleeves give digital decorators the ability to sublimate an exciting variety of tapered drinkware and handleless wine tumblers using a convection oven.

To use, simply insert a blank sublimatable product with attached transfer into a film sleeve, shrink the film sleeve with a heat gun to conform to the product’s shape, and then place it into a convection oven for that product’s appropriate temperature and time settings.

“While most drinkware can be produced in a traditional mug press, tapered mug press, or an oven using a wrap, many of our new drinkware products should be decorated in a convection oven using a shrink wrap bag. This new way of imaging drinkware produces full, all-around images that will impress you and your customers!” says David Gross, President of Condé Systems.

    February 25 2019

AnaJet, a Ricoh company and global leader in the direct to garment (DTG) industry, has partnered with fellow DTG industry leader Kothari Info-Tech to release Kothari Print Pro, a cutting-edge raster image processor (RIP) software configured exclusively for Ricoh DTG machines.

“We are incredibly pleased to integrate Kothari Print Pro into another printer platform,” said Sanjay Maheshwari, Director at Kothari Info-Tech (P) Limited. “With Kothari Print Pro’s high-performance capabilities, we knew the RIP would be an excellent way to add functionality and additional value to the new RICOH Ri 1000 as well as to AnaJet’s RICOH Ri 3000 and Ri 6000 machines.”

All Ricoh DTG printers come with a free license for AnaRIP software, which provides excellent RIP functionality suitable for many applications. The new Kothari Print Pro RIP software, however, now provides a premium option with more advanced capabilities to accommodate power users’ needs.

“With their robust, industry-leading features, the Ricoh family of DTG printers deserve cutting-edge software,” explained AnaJet Inc. Marketing Director Paul Crocker. “Kothari produced a truly amazing RIP software that helps our customers save time and money while creating even higher quality prints than what was possible in the past.”

Kothari Print Pro optimises ink usage for black garment printing by employing a patented process that takes the garment’s colour into account when processing a printable image. When a set of standard sample images were tested using “White Highlight” mode with default settings, Kothari Print Pro reduced the average ink costs of a black t-shirt print by over 44 percent when compared to AnaRIP Software.

To improve overall performance, the RIP software delivers more print profiles that are better optimised for a wider range of garment colours and types. The software provides fine detail and subtle colour gradations, resulting in prints that display richer, brighter, and more accurate colour.

Unlike other RIP software, Kothari Print Pro also provides convenient options for directly editing the RIP image. Load and position multiple image files or tweak colours on the fly. Kothari Print Pro makes it easy to create beautiful, exceptionally high-quality prints.

Kothari Print Pro is available for US$1,250.00 for the new RICOH Ri 1000 and $1,800.00 for the industrial-level RICOH Ri 6000. Both versions are now available in AnaJet’s online store. February 25 2019

Esko, a global supplier of integrated hardware and software solutions for the packaging, labels and wide format sectors, showcased the benefits of its latest preconfigured Automation Engine workflow prepress solution for label converters at the HP Indigo Global VIP Event.

Having partnered with HP Indigo for over fifteen years in the development of digital printing solutions for label printing, Esko and HP Indigo are focussed on delivering next level prepress workflow automation across the entire packaging supply chain.

Speaking at the event, Adi Levy, CEO of PEERPRINT Ltd., a leading Israeli label and packaging converter utilising HP Indigo digital presses and the recently launched version of Esko Automation Engine for prepress workflow automation, said: “The difference that the combination of these technologies is making to our business is astonishing. We have increased our productivity by up to 50% since implementing Automation Engine in our facility, which took less than one week to install. The speed and accuracy of jobs now reaching the press is outstanding, enabling us to grow and have more flexibility to respond to our customers’ needs.”

Esko President Mattias Byström commented: “Delivering easy to use, turnkey solutions to simplify operations, driving value and efficiency, is core to Esko’s strategy, and our collaboration with HP Indigo ensures we have a comprehensive offering. Our latest Automation Engine offers  an ‘out of the box’ style solution for label printers to quickly and easily deploy using pre-loaded industry best practice workflows, and the benefits for companies like PEERPRINT are clear for all to see.”

As a web-based workflow solution, Automation Engine automates prepress tasks, speeds up the process, reduces errors and minimises the need for operator intervention. As a result, Automation Engine enables converters to grow production capacity without increasing headcount. Equipment efficiency and productivity is enhanced and the intuitive nature of the technology ensures no prepress expertise is required in house at the label converter.

Esko Automation Engine ensures label converters can address workflow automation quickly and simply. The latest pre-configured Automation Engine can be up and running in under a week or a bespoke solution can be designed to the specific converter environment. Once familiar with the best practice workflows, customers can also further fine tune workflows to best match the particular challenges of their production set up.

Alon Bar-Shany, General Manager of HP Indigo, commented: “Converters are experiencing increasing demand for short run work and faster response times. Globally, HP Indigo digital presses are the leading technology designed to respond to this market trend and it’s clear that prepress automation is key to maximising overall productivity for converters. By automating the prepress, jobs can be delivered faster and more accurately to press to maximise asset utilisation. Working with ESKO we are able to provide a market-leading end-to-end solution to meet the needs of our customers just like PEERPRINT.”
